Talking with an interpreter
This gift will cover the cost of a one-hour session, where they can get advice, in their language, on everything from healthcare and travel to education and legal support. Our caseworkers can also help find a place for them to learn English, so they can settle into their new life just that little bit easier.
Arriving in a new, unfamiliar place and being unable to speak the language can be a daunting experience. We organise for interpreters to work individually with vulnerable migrants, refugees and people seeking asylum across the UK to support them in a language they understand.
Originally from Darfur, Yaqoob made the journey through Europe to the UK in 2015 after leaving his home behind.
“I didn’t speak any English when I arrived in Rotherham. The staff and volunteers at the Red Cross were very helpful. They gave me information and helped me to find a place to learn English and to get to know the local community. I now volunteer myself as I want to help others in the same way I was helped.”
Gifts of kindness are changing the lives of refugees and people seeking asylum across the UK, thanks to you.
